Welcome to the PHOTOVILLE FESTIVAL 2020 

Exhibition Proposal Form!

The UPI Team will be accepting proposals through April 15, 2020.

Please keep in mind that this is a preliminary request for proposals. Once your proposal is reviewed, a member of our team will be in touch between April 1 - June 1. If your proposal is accepted, we will schedule a time to discuss the next steps which will include curatorial, technical, and financial elements. All applicants will receive a notification by June 15. 

Please note that submission of this proposal form does not guarantee inclusion to Photoville 2020 but it is an important and necessary step towards evaluating each proposal and reaching a final decision.


  • There are unavoidable costs associated with organizing an outdoor event as large in scale as Photoville in New York City. We work very hard each year to create a community event and a platform for organizations, curators and artists to reach a very large and diverse audience -- and to keep it completely free and open to the public. 
  • The costs associated with the production of the Photoville Festival are significant, and we ask all our partners to contribute to this effort, which only covers a fraction of what Photoville actually costs to run. The partner contributions cover 27% of the total Photoville budget. The remaining 73% is covered by sponsorships, donations, and grants.
  • Past partners’ contributions range from $4,000 - $15,000, which go towards the cost of the exhibition space, container, electricity, public liability insurance, security, lighting, festival staff, promotion, and much more. Additionally, partners are expected to cover the costs for the production and installation of their individual exhibits. We ask you to submit a draft production budget with your proposal that includes your cost of printing, audio-visual equipment, and labor needs if relevant.
  • Limited subsidy and production support may be available for exhibitions and artists on a case-by-case basis. 

We work with each of our partners individually and if your project is identified as a good fit for Photoville 2020, we will reach out by early June, to discuss it in more detail.

Applications will be considered in the order they are received and spaces are limited so we suggest submitting your proposal at your earliest convenience. We will respond to potential partners from now until early June (or until all spaces are filled).
